I recently finished First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers, by Loung Ung, a Cambodian author and survivor of the Pol Pot regime. The piece of literature is a personal account of her experiences during the Khmer Rouge years.
This book was heartbreaking, yet inspiring. Several times I had to put the book down because I was so saddened by her experiences, but Loung's courage and determination to survive encouraged my continued reading.
By reading this first piece of literature, I am inspired to bring my own skills and talents to Cambodia, to the 75 orphans I so desperately want to share my love with.
